I’ve been thinking about the Reading List page on my website recently and wondering whether to kill it off as part of my current brand refresh. I’m very glad I didn’t, for two main reasons:
One – I was with a new client recently who surprised me by telling me she’d been looking round my website and loved the book recommendations. On the strength of what I’d written, she had picked up a book to read for the first time in years. Given her overall level of enthusiasm and energy, I don’t doubt that book will get read and I’m very much looking forward to the feedback she’s promised to give me.
Rediscovering the joy of reading
Reason two – it would appear I may have seen just the tip of the iceberg regarding the upsurge in reading, which is evidently happening on a large-scale, judging by a recent article in The Times. It claims that the lockdown reading revival is continuing to sweep the country, and that Bloomsbury says its sales have remained at lockdown levels.
All of this is music to my ears as a Coach, since learning, by whatever method, shows an open mind, a curiosity to understand, a willingness to see a different perspective and a hunger for fresh ideas to keep social interchange lively and fresh.
Expand your mind
I know podcasts are great and listening to a book as you drive along or take a train journey can be an excellent way to use your time carefully and productively. But for me, the big advantage of reading a physical book is the chance to use your imagination to its full. For the same reason, I love radio broadcasts and the feeling of depth and intimacy that they can create.
So, the Reading List is very definitely going to be preserved on my new website – take a peek before it’s refreshed and see if any of the books there take your fancy: https://barnhillconsulting.co.uk/my-reading-list/
